Happy Lamb
This is a complete renovation and modernization of a former pizzeria in Naperville, Illinois. This location is the third Happy Lamb designed by Dearborn Architects and the fourth location in Chicagoland for this national chain of hot pot restaurants.
Hot pot has gained popularity outside the Asian community and is fast becoming a mainstay in Asian cuisine. Happy Lamb is well known for its great tasting all-you-can-eat offerings at affordable prices. The existing interior space has very high ceiling with wrap around clerestory windows. The entire space including a large mezzanine dining room and kitchen was gutted. The existing structure was reinforced to preserve an open and airy feel to the dining rooms.
The result was a light filled interior environment enhanced by an abundance of natural vegetation. To create the pastoral look and feel that restaurant chain is aiming for custom lighting fixtures, decorations and graphics were designed and fabricated. The process began with laying out ideas and concepts in the form of rough sketches. These were evaluated, further refined and meticulously rendered to validate concepts and ideas. Multiple prototypes of custom fixtures and decorations sourced overseas were evaluated and refined prior to final production. A successful renovation of an existing restaurant requires that the exterior reflect the character of the interior space. In this case, the exterior was radically transformed to provide an updated look to achieve the contemporary look.
